Topps does something right

6 06 2008

I’m still waiting to receive a redemption card from Upper Deck from either the 88/89 or 89/90 hockey season.  I don’t remember what it was for anymore, and gave up hope of it ever showing up about 6 years ago.  It’s too bad they did not have Topps new redemption system in place:

Beginning with Topps Baseball Series 2, all redemption cards (see image) will contain a unique alpha-numeric code on the back that can be entered at http://www.topps.com/redemptions.  After entering the code, the site will allow customers to track the status of their redemptions and send an automatic update when redemptions are shipped.

Of course, an unscrupulous few will both attempt to redeem the code and sell the redemption card at the same time, so collectors should be more than aware of this when shopping on the secondary market.  But for the box breaker who wants to redeem their cards themselves, Topps’ new system should alleviate a lot of the guesswork that used to occur.
