Upper Deck scrubs the Yankee Stadium Legacy site

18 06 2008

Yesterday, as a result of a Beckett message board post, I noted that Lou Gehrig, Johnny Mize, and Thurman Munson were all part of both the Upper Deck Yankee Stadium Legacy release and the Topps-CMG agreement that sparked the latest lawsuit between the card companies.

Following up today with a trip to the Yankee Stadium Legacy card site that Upper Deck runs, the memorabilia cards of Lou Gehrig have since been removed from the gallery, which seems to indicate some truth to the rumor that future Upper Deck releases may be in peril. The Munson memorabilia card remains, however.

You’ll also notice that Gehrig’s name has been removed from the checklist, too. Hopefully this screenshot is legible. It shows the set checklist jumping from 175 to 201. Lou Gehrig cards are numbered 176-200.

Mize and Munson have been removed from the checklist as well.

A quick trip back to the gallery of card shows the Munson card is now removed also.

Of course, all of these cards could return pending the courts ruling on Topps and CMG’s suit. The original restraining order lasts only ten days, meaning that sometime next week we should know more.
