Topps Red Hot Rookie #6

3 07 2008

I’m so excited, because this is the one I pulled…

Topps Red Hot Rookie #6 is Chris Davis, 1B for the Texas Rangers.  Chris is hitting .316 with 3 HRs in only 7 games for the Rangers, with a .842 slugging percentage and an OPS of 1.223.  Before the call up, he was hitting .333 in the minors with 23 HRs and 73 RBIs and 7 SBS.  I tried to get Chris for my fantasy keeper team with no luck.

As a holder of Red Hot Rookie #6, this could have been a lot worse.  As a Reds fan I would have loved Cueto here, but at least Chris is a guy I’m familiar with.  He was ranked #2 in the Rangers organization by Baseball America, and #4 by John Sickles, who gave him a B+ grade.

As long as he keeps his strikeout rate down, Chris could be a .280 hitter and you will be able to light a small city with the power he has the potential to generate.

The announced so far:

#1 Jay Bruce, Cincinnati Reds
#2 Justin Masterson, Boston Red Sox
#3 John Bowker, San Francisco Giants
#4 Kosuke Fukudome, Chicago Cubs
#5 Mike Aviles, Kansas City Royals
#6 Chris Davis, Texas Rangers
