Things I’d forgotten, 1987 Topps edition

10 11 2008

While sorting through some 1987 Topps duplicates, I came across this:
87-topps-seaver
I’d forgotten Seaver played with the Red Sox, but there he is, photographically captured in one of the 16 games he started for them in 1986. He went 5-7 with a 3.80 ERA for the Red Sox that year, which isn’t too bad for a 41 year old pitcher.

For those curious, the White Sox gave up Seaver for Steve Lyons, whose Baseball Encyclopedia page is sponsored by a Lily Allen website. And from Lyons Wikipedia page:

Steve is considered by many to be one of the absolute best athletes to ever emerge from the state of Oregon.

I’m guessing that means Steve is not only computer savvy, but he also frequents Wikipedia.

Can you name a better athlete from Oregon? Huh? Can you?

I actually looked into it before posting, in case Lyons’ claim was valid. I think Dale Murphy or Danny Ainge would qualify.
