2009 Topps Red Hot Rookie #2

15 06 2009

Topps has announced Red Hot Rookie #2 for 2009.  Ladies and Gentleman, Gordon Beckham…

“Becks” is the #1 ranked prospect in the White Sox system coming into 2009.  He was their #1 pick in the 2008 draft, going 8th overall and the first top ten selection for Chicago since Alex Fernandez.  That one went well.

Beckham is struggling so far, but that’s kind of to be expected for a guy who’s gone through four levels of baseball in one year (Beckham started the season in A ball).  He’s currently 4 for 35 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored, and it seems the White Sox are giving him ample time to figure it all out.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Topps without a shortprint, so Topps has decided that one in every ten of these babies will be autographed.  Like this one:

Beckham’s got a low BABIP and LD rate, but once those numbers start to rise, so too should Beckham’s star.

The 2009 Topps Red Hot Rookies:

#1 Fernando Martinez, OF, Mets
#2 Gordon Beckham, SS, White Sox (1 in 10 will be auto’ed)
