The Tournament of Gimmicks Championship game

9 04 2010

After almost a month of voting from the card blogging community, the most important vote has finally come and it has nothing to do with Upper Deck’s blog or facebook page…

It’s the Championship, baby!

Voting takes place here, and I can honestly say I’m equally torn between the two.  On one hand, you have the set that you could not escape, no matter how little you care about New York baseball.  On the other hand, you’ve got the grandfather of Topps gimmickry, the one that helped birth Poley Walnuts, Houston Joba, the “upside down” gimmicks, and this year’s Baseball Abe, all of whom were pretenders in this year’s bracket.

At the very least, the 2007 Topps Jeter is a first ballot Hall of Famer when construction finally begins on the Gimmick hall of fame.  Inthe end, I just can’t bring myself to pull the lever for anything involving George Bush at this point, so I’ve gotta give the edge to YSL.

UPDATED: Voting’s now closed. You missed your chance this year. Sorry
