And back into second they fall

20 05 2010

Anytime you face the Braves with your “B” line up, watch Tommy Hanson give up 8 runs in less than two innings, and Jason Hayward goes 0-5, you’ve got to think you’re going to win.

That’s until you see your team had four errors (including on a possible double play ball by Miguel Cairo in the 9th).  And the game ending grand slam goes off the top of the wall, then Laynce Nix’s glove, then over the fence.

So all you can do now is second guess.  Should Mike Lincoln have been allowed to pitch a third inning?  Probably not.  Would Chris Heisey have made that catch?  I think so, but who knows.  Would Paul Janish have turned the double play instead of Miguel Cairo?  Again, I think so, but you can’t tell.

So the Reds drop to 2nd place after getting swept by the Braves.  In consecutive walk off losses.  And all Reds fans have to wonder what just happened.

I’m glad I resisted the urge to gloat after Joey Votto’s grand slam in the 2nd.

Hopefully the Indians will be the cure the Reds need to get back on track.

I’m sure you did, and with the exception of the bottom of the ninth in both games, I enjoyed it, too. Thank goodness we’re getting out of Atlanta and into Cleveland.
